The deal will allow Hunslet to field players who are not on first team duty with Trinity. Wakefield have a similar arrangement with Betfred Super League champions Wigan Warriors.

It will boost the third tier side’s squad and also give first opportunities to players who are not getting senior rugby with Trinity. Hunslet chief executive Neil Hampshire said: “We have picked up more than our fair share of injuries this season and have already had to move proactively into the loan market. This agreement will help to offer further squad cover while providing the opportunity for players to perform in a competitive league environment.”

His Wakefield counterpart Craig Barrass hinted the arrangement could be extended beyond this year, insisting: “Hunslet RLFC are a progressive club with great history, much like ourselves and we look forward to working together over the coming season and beyond.”

Trinity recruitment manager Ste Mills added: “This will provide playing opportunities for all of our players. It will allow some of our young players to play at a higher level and challenge themselves. This partnership will work for both parties and both coaching staff will be working very closely with one another.”
