Kirkstall Road: Leeds tip evacuated as bomb squad called over 'potentially suspicious package'

A Leeds tip was evacuated as the bomb squad was called over a “potentially suspicious package”.

The incident, that was reported shortly before 5pm yesterday (April 16), saw police rush to an outbuilding on Redcote Lane, close to the recycling centre.

They were supported by the army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team and the area was evacuated.

A police cordon was put in place as a precaution while the item was assessed.

However, West Yorkshire Police has confirmed that it presented no risk and the cordon was lifted.
